So, if they’re collected the day before we leave and we travel over
2 days, they should be with us… soon! Yet, during the various stops of your journey
we already found out that, with the 1st of January being bank holiday and then the weekend, they would arrive at the end of the next week… well, all
in all it took them 15 days!
Plus a preliminary visit to DHL and the airport and then a seemingly
endless, but actually 3.5 hour long, wait at the airport, where we played a
not-so-nice game of presenting documents, waiting, presenting them again,
paying custom tax here, waiting, paying handling fees there, waiting, getting
copies done there, ordering all the copies, getting them stamped here, showing
them there, finally grabbing the bags, stop!, presenting those XXXX documents
again, getting some more stamps, filling a couple of forms… OUT! WE’VE GOT THEM
IN THE CAR: step on the gas, ride home fast, before they chase us!
Time for a big family party, all our stuff is home! What was so important? Well, with
30celsius in the shade, the missing sandals were becoming a bit of an issue; cutlery and dishes were very welcome on our table and the arrival of the
ice-cream maker (our one and only real luxury item) was celebrated in style the
very next day with a delicious mango-chocolate chips marvel, but just ask the
boys and the answer is simple: the bags contained one necessary thing, LEGO!
Apart from some small things, we haven’t brought a lot of different toys, going instead for one big choice, which proved to be the right one: since then, they haven’t
done anything else inside, apart from homework! Why did we bring the rest?
Anyway, the two oldies are happy as well, now that we’ve got all we
needed, which is easily seen as way too much, once you take a short stroll
around the neighbourhood (instead of driving to the city centre to buy a few
more things)… shame on us! Luckily God is always ready to forgive.
